TYP Wiki Open to the Public

Welcome to the Transitional Youth Project wiki. This space was initially provided as a type of portal for disseminating and distributing information, documents and files surrounding Transitional Youth during the Transitional Youth project. Even though this project is closed and the articles are not open for editing, we believe that they will be useful for providing information regarding the findings over the course of the project and lend insight into the outcomes as a result.

The discussion pages (see the "discussion" tab at the top of the page) are still open for editing. If you have suggestions/comments regarding anything you see in this project, please use that tab to express yourself.

Thank you for your interest in the Transitional Youth Project.

If you have any questions or concerns with this wiki, please contact Bridget Stewart via email.

Editing content

  • To edit content of an entire page and all it's subsections, click the "edit" tab at the top of the page.

This option is best put to use in situations where you want create or delete subsections, move content from one subsection to another, rename the headline of subsections, or rearrange the order of the subsections.

  • Each headline on a page has a corresponding "edit" link that can be used to access only that portion of the page.

This is a convenient method for focusing only on the portion you wish to edit. It filters away the items that pertain to the other subsections of the page.

  • When 4 headlines (subsections) have been created on a page, the wiki software will automatically create a Contents box at the top of the page.

View the top of this page to see the Contents box for an example. If a page has less than 4 subsections on it, there will not be a Contents box.

  • For information about the editing toolbar and the function of each icon, read this page.
  • For information on creating basic lists read the "List basics" section of this page.
  • To upload files, click the "Upload file" link located in the toolbox on the left.

At this time are the only file extensions that are supported are: 'png', 'gif', 'jpg', 'jpeg', 'doc', 'xls', 'pdf', 'ppt', 'txt'. After uploading, type the filename, highlight it and press the "embedded image"-button of the edit_toolbar (looks like a picture).

This will produce the syntax for linking to that file's page: [[Image:filename.doc]]

Example: Image:VoicesLogoSmall.jpg

Example: Image:Test doc.doc

Clicking on the "Image:Test_doc.doc" link will take you to the page where you can download the file. In addition, there is a discussion tab related to that file's page for discussing the file.

If discussion around the file is an unnecessary option, it is possible to link to the file directly using this syntax instead: [[Media:filename.doc]]

Example: Media:Test_doc.doc

Clicking on the "Media:Test_doc.doc" link will begin download of the file.

Using talk pages

The tab labeled "discussion" at the top of a page will allow you to access the "talk page" for a corresponding article page. The talk page is the best means for sharing ideas behind edits you think might be beneficial or for sharing reasons why you chose to make an edit to an article. It makes it possible to collaborate during the editing process.

You should make it a practice to sign your contributions by typing three or four tildes (~~~ = Username)
(~~~~ = Username 16:39, 26 April 2007 (EDT)).

Example of 3 tildes: Bstewart
Example of 4 tildes: Bstewart 16:42, 26 April 2007 (EDT)
